The San Francisco 49ers’ new 69,000-seat Levis Stadium is a dynamic sports and entertainment destination designed to accommodate a wide range of sporting, concert and community events. The stadium embraces a progressive approach to sustainability and technology and is the first LEED Gold and most technologically advanced stadium in the NFL.
Architecturally, the stadium layout is inspired by the Roman amphitheater with a multi-story tower containing clubs, suites and press as the proscenium. The Tower is flanked by two large pedestrian entry plazas. The C-shaped seating bowl wraps the field, focusing fans on the action.
The architectural vocabulary is defined as an expression of the building structure. White steel columns, cables, plates and braces create a light network that helps define spaces, decks, stairs and ramps. The open floors allow the surrounding hills and sky to participate in the experience so fans are always grounded to the unique stadium location.
