Let's dig deep by uncovering ways to grow more food in, on, and around our urban built environments. Three experts, with over 100 years of combined gardening experience will share knowledge and ideas that could be used by designers to transform the "food deserts" into "food oases".
Topics will include:
- The unique capabilities and differences of food growing systems including hydroponics, aquaponics, aeroponics, vertical growing, and roof top farming.
- Essential plant growing needs regarding soil, water, nurtrients, and light to maximize food production.
- How to effectively utilize food growing systems in built environments including placement, community education/involvement, and product demand/distribution.
- Insight regarding challenges with a focus on design solutions by looking at existing urban farming projects in the United States
This program is worth 1 HSW and lunch will be provided.
